Yes, really.
When we set out to find the best & most obscure of local food in Midtown, this was one of our most exciting finds. Look for the address in the busy Diamond District and then climb up the steps past diamond retail offices and other Diamond businesses. You'll see the take-out counter first (we love their samsas - baked meat pie- to go, the pumpkin version is pretty great too) and past that the entrance to a no-frills restaurant with simple wood tables and painted windows of country scenes.
The menu is filled with savory meat and rice dishes, and their home made bread (lepeshka) comes out warm and perfectly soft on the inside. Even if you will obviously be the only person who does not work in the Diamond District in the joint service is friendly and helpful. Note their hours as they close for daily prayer and for the Sabbath, also keep in mind that the entrees are large enough to share if you're getting a few sides as well.
Afraid you'll never find it? Join our weekday Beyond Broadway Tour to sink your teeth into their delicious food.
