You can grab some on tap at some of our favorite spots; Breukelen Bier Merchants, 61 Local (where you can try it on our Brooklyn Brownstone Tour). For bottles, look for Kombucha Brooklyn which you’ll also find on tap throughout the city, and if you want to try your hand at home brewing, they even offer classes, the Brooklyn Grange has one coming up as well.
Next to all of our favorite local brews on tap, we’ve seen more and more spots also have locally brewed kombucha which you can enjoy there or take home in a growler. Kombucha is an ancient fermented tea drink originating in China. The brewing process is pretty simple, consisting of tea, water, sugar & a SCOBY (a fermenting culture- for all of those healthy probiotics) and you’ll end up with a drink filled with antioxidants, B vitamins and more. It can definitely be an acquired taste but those who enjoy it find it tart, fizzy & refreshing- and the longer it ferments, the higher the alcohol percentage (especially if you’re home brewing).
