![]() Fort Defiance is a wonderful restaurant and cocktail bar in Red Hook Brooklyn. Opened by St. John Frizell in 2009 it became an instant star and a rare culinary gem in the isolated neighborhood. It's particularly well known for their excellent cocktails which are among the best in the city. Unfortunately, the Hurricane ensured that the restaurant's basement was shaken and stirred, causing them tremendous damage and shutting the restaurant down for weeks. They've recently reopened and have come up with a creative way to raise money to help with their recovery. They are offering what they are calling "Junk Bonds" which in reality are gift certificates that you pay double for. So for instance, a $20 Junk Bond is worth $10 at the restaurant. Like so many of the businesses we are supporting, this kind of creative fundraising is not charity. You are getting value for your contribution and in return, a struggling small business gets much needed cash to help get them back on their feet. To purchase junk bonds just go to the Fort Defiance web site. Hope to see you cashing in your bonds at the bar soon!
