Modern Art, Reading, Dollar Slices + Latin Spice
Grab your artsy friends, and visit the Peter Jay Sharp Building (30 Lafayette Ave.) and BAM Fisher (321 Ashland Pl.) to celebrate the 15th season of Next Wave Art with a free reception. At 7pm, there will be a number of performances by Svetlana Kitto and Amelia Bande, Charity Coleman and Morgan Bassichis, and Wo Chan and Rob Rusli.
The Shrine Church of Saint Anthony of Padua will be hosting a giant pizza party with pizza from 50 of the city's top pizzerias, including Lobardi's, Valducci's, DiFara, and so much more. Best of all, slices are only $1, and 100% of proceeds benefit NYC hunger relief charities.
After two years of construction, both the New York Public Library Rose Main Reading Room and The Bill Glass Public Catalog Room will reopen October 5. The historic spaces closed in May 2014 after a large plaster rosette dropped from the reading room’s ceiling and damaged the room. To celebrate the reopening, the library is hosting a free exhibition on the restoration called “Preserving a Masterpiece: From Soaring Ceilings to Subterranean Storage. ”
Head to Brooklyn for a Latin Spice Food Tasting Event. Tickets are $23 and include food, beer, wine and a variety of tastings. Tisha Torres, or "Chef Charlie," is the organizer of this event, whose grandmother instilled in her the importance of passing on Puerto Rican recipes, culture, and tradition.
