Tong sui at InDessert
Tong sui- translated as "sugar water"- is a dessert soup (stay with us!), found in Cantanese cooking. And it's amazing.
What's the Deal?
Like most things in NYC's Chinatown, InDesset is a modern spin on an old school Chinese tradition. While you'll find traditional flavors (served hot) like Sago and Black Sesame, you'll also find more modern desserts like the pomelo + mango served cold (picture a frozen yogurt, with all the toppings, then melted) or a brownie sundae.
The best part, the desserts are made au natural. The traditional almond we tasted was like eating creamy, melted marzipan. The ingredients? Fresh, hand crushed almonds (apparently blending almonds won't get the same flavor).
Located towards on Chatham Square in Chinatown, it's an easy walk from the J, Z, 4, 5, 6 + R trains. Head there at night to experience Chinatown nightlife when the bright, modern space pumps pop music + is filled with young Chinese.
