#CurrentObsession:  McSorley's Old Ale House

The Obsession:
A spot with killer atmosphere + a long history as one of NYC's oldest bars [THE oldest if you ask them].

The Basics:
Only light or dark ale [only] served in two glasses with plenty of seating in their back room.

What's the Deal?
One of the last "Men Only" pubs in NYC (even the female owner refused to step foot inside during open hours- a law suit forced them to open it to women in 1970 but their failed to add a female bathroom...), this Irish tavern is crawling with history.  From the sawdust floors, to the old wooden bar, you're looking at decor that hasn't been changed in decades.
To order like a savvy local- just saw "light" or "dark" and don't be surprised when they stick two glasses in front of you.

You can visit McSorley's Old Ale House in the East Village, right off of the Astor station on the 6 Train.

#CurrentObsessions:  Brooklyn Bagel

The Obsession:
A Queens based (yup- the name's confusing that way) bagel shop for our fav NYC bagel.  Seriously.

The Basics:
High quality bagels made the old-school way for the perfect crunchy crust/chewy center.

What's the Deal?
With over 15 flavors of bagel and upwards of 20 spreads you'd think it would dilute the quality but these are right up there in our top 3 bagels spots in NYC (alongside Murray's + Russ + Daughters)- and we take our bagels very seriously.  They also have great fresh squeezed orange juice + some great sandwich, soup options for later in the day.  We recommend starting with a mini-sized bagel (which is basically regular sized).  Then size up accordingly to the regular one (which is ginormous) the next visit- because you'll be back.  And then back again.

You can visit Brooklyn Bagel  at one of their several locations in Astoria or in Chelsea.
