Brooklyn Roasting Company has humble beginnings, starting off as a joint endeavor between two friends, Michael and Jim, in Jim's loft in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
The company is now located in Dumbo, Brooklyn. Michael & Jim, like Urban Oyster, have a strong belief in working with communities, neighbors and local businesses. Michael and Jim credit the success of the company down to word of mouth and friends telling friends. They treasure the tight knit community they work in, and make an extra special effort to get to know and build relationships with as many customers as they can.
Brooklyn Roasting Company also has a strong commitment to Fair Trade policies and working with the farmers that grow the coffee beans they use. It is important to the company that these farmers are looked after and that coffee is grown in a sustainable way, particularly as it is the 2nd largest trading commodity in the world. The staff also make a special effort to visiting the areas where the coffee beans grow, and have already taken trips to Nicaragua, Hawaii and Ethiopia, to name but a few.
