#TuesdayTidbits- New Year's Eve Picks

12/31/2014

Sure, you could camp out in Times Sq. in the cold starting at 10am with no bathroom, or you could check out some alternatives to ring in the New Year:

One of our favorite beer spots, Jimmy’s No. 43, is hosting a two-part event of a prix fixe dinner (three-courses with a paring of beer, wine or cider) and then an open bar from 9-12pm.
An exciting newcomer this year is a Coney Island Ball Drop under the historic parachute jump.  The free event will include an 8,000 LED light show, sideshow performers and music finishing with fireworks at midnight.

[For the very motivated come back at 1pm New Year’s Day for the famous Polar Bear Plunge.]
For a good ol' fireworks show (without having to ride the Staten Island Ferry back & forth), check out the spectacular at Grand Army Plaza.

#TuesdayTidbits- Hot Booze to Warm You Up

12/23/2014

There's nothing better to get us through this strangely warm & wet holiday season than a nice hot (alcoholic) drink.  We've gone through some of our favorite, coziest local bars to find the best drinks to warm you up through the winter.
At the Gotham West Market (we suggest eating here as well at some of their amazing food stands), you'll find a great Malted Hot Toddy at The Cannibal, mixed with malt syrup, barley, and Four Roses bourbon.  Another classic we found was the Hot Buttered Rum at Dutch Kills in Long Island City (which specializes in classic & traditional drinks) made with rum, honey, spiced butter & nutmeg.
If you're looking for something with more of a sugar pick-up instead of alcohol, you can try one of the amazing Hot Chocolates at Cocoa Bar (with locations on the Lower East Side & in Park Slope) with flavors like white, mint, cinnamon & chunky monkey (really!)
