#CurrentObsessions: Bathtub Gin

The Basics: Venture to Chelsea for a speakeasy with a lot of history behind their top-notch drinks and atmosphere.
The Obsession: You enter this speakeasy through a coffee shop, and continue to dim lighting and gorgeous aesthetics with a giant bathtub positioned in the center of the room and miniature tubs as sinks  by the bathrooms. All of their drinks are crafted carefully by knowledgeable mixologists.  As this place is known for its gin, we suggest you try the inventive "Aviation Royale," with aviation american gin, creme de violette, luxardo marashino, pernod absinthe, pressed lemon, chilled prosecco and lemon oils. However, patrons also love the "Cantaro," with del maguey vida mezcal, pressed cucumber, fresh lime juice, organic egg white, agave-sage solution, and fresh sage. This speakeasy attracts a trendy crowd on the weekend evenings, and offers entertainment on various nights including jazz and burlesque.
What's the Deal? Gin was one of the more popular drinks during the Prohibition Era in the 1920's. Because the 18th amendment prohibited the sale or manufacturing of distilled alcohol, producers were forced to use denatured alcohol, which was poisonous and foul tasting. To cover up the  poor quality of this alcohol, producers would create "bathtub gin" by mixing it with other flavors and steeping it in a tub for an extended period of time to make it more drinkable.  In a nod to Prohibition, the  drinks at Bathtub Gin are made with similar creativity, but with only the freshest and finest fruits and juices.
You can visit Bathtub Gin in Chelsea via the ACE train.

The Basics: Think the Meatpacking District is just a hub for club-goers pining for vodka sodas? Think again. A unique restaurant and craft cocktail bar has made its way to the West Side, and we think cocktail lovers are going to go crazy for this spot!
The Obsession: Sons & Daughters of NYC was opened on July 13th, by cocktail afficionado, Leo DeGroff, who has teamed up with owners of Sweetwater Social, Goldbar and WD-50 to bring you creative drinks and unmatched bar bites. We suggest you visit this spot soon before word gets out!
What's the Deal? For a strong and refreshing summer cocktail, opt for the "Concrete Jungle" with kappa pisco, aperol, raspberry, lime, salt, and grapefruit beer. For the sweet tooths out there, we suggest the "Girl Scout" with Fords gin branca menta, creme de cacao, lime, mint, and cookie (essentially a toned down thin mint with a kick). Bites include onion rings with cilantro, queso fresco and chipotle mayo, artichoke toast with parmesean, chiles and citrus; and so much more.
You can visit Sons & Daughters of NYC in the Meatpacking District via the ACE train.
