#TuesdayTidbits- The Swedish Church

This hidden sanctuary in the middle of Midtown's craziness offers a calm, quiet space, and the best cinnamon buns in town.
Unless you already knew this Lutheran Church was open to the public, you would probably never think to peak in as you pass it right on E 48th St.  Even if you knew it was there, you probably wouldn't think to ring the buzzer, wait for the buzz and enter in through the marine decorated library.

Once you enter, you'll be surrounded by mostly blonds speaking in Swedish, a small community hidden amongst the corporate businesses of the neighborhood.  Walk straight to the back and choose from their fresh baked goods which are prepared daily, from scratch, in the Church's basement (make sure to ask them to warm it up if it's cooled down).
They'll place your good on a little tray (along with any drinks you may get- their coffee is top notch) and you'll be free to sit at one of the round tables in the library.

The perfect spot to catch your breath, and relax.  Just keep in mind that it IS a quiet space, so while talking is certainly allowed, they'll appreciate it if you keep the volume low.

You can check out the Swedish Church on our Beyond Broadway Tour.

#TuesdayTidbits- The Filling Station

The Filling Station specializes in extra virgin olive oils, vinegars, salts, and even craft beer at their Chelsea Market spot.  You can also find them in Rockefeller Center, in the underground concourse.  The shop is one of a few different specialty oil stores owned by Veronica Foods, founded in 1924 in NYC by Italian transplant Salvatore Esposito.  True extra virgin olive oil is hard to find in the United States, as a butter culture we just don't have the palette for it, and often prefer a more watered down oil that is without all of the incredible health benefits of extra virgin.  Currently run by the Granddaughter of the original founder, many of their stores focus on oil education and they've even purchased olive groves near the coast in Tunisia where they can produce their own oil.

Perfect for gifts, at the Filling Station you can find tasting sets of infused oil, flavored salts (like merlot, or pink himalayan), and delicious flavored vinegars perfect for BBQing, salads, or even cocktails (really!).

Check out the Filling Station on our brand new Beyond Broadway Tour where we show you how to hack Midtown.
