#TuesdayTidbits- Blind Barber

5/27/2015

This East Village barbershop is, quite possibly, one of the coolest stops on our NY Cocktail Tour.  The owners wanted to make the space for socialization that old school barbershops used to create.  Grab a shave or haircut and receive a free drink, or just head through the shop to that back door (if it's open) to enjoy a craft cocktail and some equally delicious nosh.

A true modern speakeasy, the Blind Barber offers all of the needs of "the modern man" including "grooming, cocktails, fashion, and lifestyle"- although, of course, ladies are totally invited too.  You can catch them on 10th St. in the East Village, on Lorimer in Brooklyn, or even in LA.

#TuesdayTidbits- Astor Wines & Spirits

This massive shop in the East Village has an impressive collection of wines, spirits, and sake, voted the best wine & liquor shop in the entire city by the Village Voice in 2014.
The family-owned & operated shop (since 1946) is now housed in a landmarked building that has stood since 1885.

Dedicated to the small details, you'll find almost 200 sakes (in temperature-controlled units), and a cool room for delicate wines.  They also host regular tastings almost daily (posted online so you can see what they're pouring next).

But of course, our favorite part is the variety of local wine & spirits including Uncouth Vermouth, Dutch's, Owney's, Kings County & more.  We point out our favorites on our NY Cocktail Tour.
