#MonthlyPearl- The Well

3/31/2015

On our Brewed in Brooklyn Tour we explore Brooklyn’s epic brewing history (once home to almost 50 breweries) and how local beer has once again emerged today.  One of our favorite new spots we’ve included is actually housed in one of the historic breweries on Brooklyn’s Brewer’s Row, in the Otto Huber Brewery.

Housed inside this expansive space is The Well, part Brooklyn bar, part public house and part performance space.  With over 60 drafts on tap (as well as over 250 bottles, and over 20 different champagnes, wines & cocktails), it’s the perfect spot to bring picky drinkers, in fact, bring a whole group of them, plenty of space with their 4,000sq. ft.

One of our favorite aspects about the The Well is their sense of a community.  They’ve created a backyard area that serves as a gathering space for the neighborhood hosting events, public activities and live performances.

You can catch them 7 days a week starting at 4pm on weekdays & 12pm on Sat/Sun.

#TuesdayTidbits- Shabu Shabu in Flushing

The eating scene in Flushing is pretty amazing.  Far away from the tourists of Manhattan's Chinatown (which we uncover in our Tenements Tour) you can expect nothing less than an authentic Queens experience.  The 'Chinatown' is now a mix of Asian ethnicities and this great new Shabu Shabu spot (a Japanese dish) demonstrates just that.

Starting with your base soup, you can choose from different broths including spicy, Taiwanese influenced, and traditional.  While your broth heats up, you can head to the buffet which offers aisle after aisle of fresh vegetables including greens (kale, lettuce, cabbage), roots (potato, sweet potato, taro), fresh pasta (green tea, black sesame, potato), tofu (skin, dried, fresh), and the options just keep going.  All are vegetarian except for a lone pork dumpling area and additional (thin slices of) meat can be purchased.

If you've never had Shabu Shabu before it's a great place to start, servers will explain the drill (and all those utensils) and with all the veggie options you don't have to worry about dealing with raw meat.  The gigantic place can get packed, so make sure to give yourself extra time to wait.
