Brooklyn Happy Hour, Barrel Aging, Beer with Lobster, +
A Brazilian Celebration

Click on the title for more info.
Best Happy Hour Ever: Brooklyn Edition/ Monday, August 27, 2018 from 6-8pm
Our monthly Happy Hour event is moving to Brooklyn this time. And not just anywhere in Brooklyn, but The Frying Pan at Industry City. Meet fellow travelers and tour guides, while having some drinks and playing a few rounds of mini-golf or ping pong. And if you've never been to Industry City (where we do our Made in NY tour), now's your chance.
Seasonal Spirits: Wild and Wood/ Thursday, August 30, 2018 from 6:30-8:30pm
Barrel aging is a fascinating process that brings out intense flavors in things like beer, sauces, and other fermented consumables. Brooklyn brewmaster Garrett Oliver and barrel manager Eric Brown lead an evening about this amazing process at Museum of Food and Drink and let you taste their creations.Seasonal Spirits: Wild and Wood / Thursday, August 30, 2018 from 6:30-8:30pm.
Lobster & Beer Festival/ Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 11am-6pm
All day long at Hester Street Fair, you can try some great lobster rolls and other crustacean-inspired dishes and pair them with beer. As the summer slowly draws to a close, we can't think of a better way of celebrating than with this natural pairing at on of the city's most underrated food markets.
Brazilian Day 2018/ Sunday, September 2, 2018 at 11am
Celebrate Brazilian culture without hopping a plane to Rio (although you should and take our tours down there). Along 46th Street, which is also known as Little Brazil, there will be traditional music, food vendors, and plenty of Brazilian energy and culture. Don't miss the party!!

The Who:
The woman behind the unique Mexican popsicles, ice creams, and desserts at La Newyorkina is Fany Gerson. The half Mexican-half Jewish chef also happens to be the mastermind behind one of the city's best doughnut companies, Dough. Anybody who comes on our Midtown Sights & Bites tour knows that firsthand since we end with samples of her amazing yeast bombs.

Fany combines flavors from her heritage into her creations. Originally from Mexico City, she went on to study at the Culinary Institute of America before working at Michelin-starred restaurants and eventually starting two very successful New York businesses.

The What:
La Newyorkina has been her passion project for many years, bringing traditional Mexican ice cream and paletas (popsicles) to New York. She opened her first location in Red Hook, Brooklyn just days before Hurricane Sandy devastated the neighborhood. After the shop was forced to close, she continued selling the refreshing ice pops from carts across the city, most notably at Astor Place and two locations on the Highline, which you may see on our High Line & Chelsea Tour. And in 2017, she finally opened up a cute little tiendita (store) in Greenwich Village where visitors can watch the traditional nieve de garrafa sorbet being paddled by hand.

The paletas come in flavors as diverse as tamarind, mango, and cucumber lime. There is even a chili station where the employees recommend you add some spice to the sweet popsicles. Some of the other more rare desserts she offers are chamoyadas (a sweet/spicy/salty/sour icy concoction), spicy candied pumpkin seeds, and Mexican wedding cookies.

The Why:
Ice cream is available all over New York, but not quite like this. And the refreshing fruit based popsicles are important in the heat of the summer (they're actually important all year round). And this is the place where you can celebrate Mexican sweet culture and give your tastebuds an unexpected ride. It's another example of the diversity of New York and shows you can get just about anything you can imagine here.

The Where:

Learn to Make Egg Rolls, Cruise with Local Booze, NYC Revolutionary History, + A Brighton Beach Fest

Click on the title for more info.
Egg Roll Making Workshop/ Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at 6pm
We've all tried an egg roll at a Chinese restaurant, but now learn about the different types and how to make them at home. At the Flushing Town Hall in Queens, Taiwanese chefs will show you how to make traditional Cantonese, Taiwanese, and Vietnamese style egg rolls much easier than you think.
Coney Island Brews Cruise/ Wednesday, August 22, 2018 from 6:30-9pm
We love beer and we love boats, but we really love beer on boats so we're excited to join Coney Island Brewery for a special evening cruise with servings of their signature beers (including the Mermaid Pilsner and Watermelon Wheat), raffles, live DJ, and great views of the Statue of Liberty.
Lost British Forts of Long Island/ Thursday, August 23, 2018 from 6:30-8pm
After our Hamilton Happy Hour tour ends at Fraunces Tavern, head next door to the the historic Fraunces Tavern Museum to hear a talk with author David M. Griffin about the network of forts the British created along the length of Long Island to defend the New York area during the Revolutionary War. It's a major topic of his book and a fascinating one for anyone with an interest in local history.
The Annual Brighton Jubilee Festival/ Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 10am-6pm
This annual Brighton Beach street festival celebrates the diversity of the neighborhood with live music, kids' rides, and international food booths. Blocks will be closed off and lined with merchants and residents who have been coming to this event for over 40 years.
