In the Spirit of the Season:
A Tour of the Church of Most Holy Trinity - St. Mary!
Visit one of Brooklyn's most beautiful and historic churches & help those in need.
“Francie thought it was the most beautiful church in Brooklyn. It was made of old gray stone and had twin spires that rose cleanly into the sky, high above the tallest tenements. Inside, the high vaulted ceilings, narrow deepset stained-glass windows and elaborately carved altars made it a miniature cathedral.”

In the spirit of the holiday season, Urban Oyster is proud to host our third annual Christmas-themed tour of the beautiful church and parish grounds of Most Holy Trinity - St. Mary in the eastern part of Williamsburg. On this tour with Father Timothy Dore and tour guide Cindy VandenBosch, you'll venture up into the towers and down into the crypt, and even take a peek into the rathskeller basement of the rectory where clergy entertained guests. You'll learn about the German and Irish heritage of the congregation, highlighting its early beginnings in the mid-1800s with stories of the origins of Santa Claus and Christmas trees, and learn about recent immigrants who have brought new holiday traditions to the church, from Noche Buena to the Three Kings Day Parade.
Public Tour: $20/person All proceeds from this tour will be donated by Urban Oyster to the Trinity Human Service Center, a non-profit organization that provides case assistance, information and educational training to economically disadvantaged families in the city. Tour Dates: This tour is offered on two dates only: Saturday, December 17th from 1:00PM to 3:00PM and Saturday, January 7th from 1:00PM to 3:00PM. Tour Partners: Special thanks to the Parish of Most Holy Trinity - St. Mary for welcoming us into their church and for sharing the history of their congregation with us and to the Brooklyn Historical Society for their ongoing support.
