Chop Suey History, Beer and Cheese, Holiday Chocolate Gifts, + Historic Sites in Queens
Get hungry and cultured at this reception and lecture from culinary historian Mendelson and Chinese food writer Kho as they discuss the influence that Chinese cooking has had on American culture, throughout changing political and social settings and despite major discrimination and hardships. The talk is in conjunction with the Museum of Chinese in America's current exhibition Sour, Sweet, Bitter, Spicy. Before the lecture, show up for the receiption featuring dishes from Kho's new book. Seven historic houses around Flushing, Queens will be open for tours with musical performances and seasonal displays. This is a great opportunity to view some off-the-beaten path historic sites, like Flushing Town Hall and the Louis Armstrong House Museum while getting into the local holiday spirit. The houses are within walking distance to each other, but shuttle service is also provided.
