A bitters-focused bar with cocktails and Latin bar bites that will wow you.
The idea behind this fabulous bar comes from Ravi DeRossi, the ingenuous restaurateur that is responsible for 15 restaurants and bars in NYC, including Cienfuegos that resides above it. Amor y Amargo is overseen by Sother Teague, former chef and well-known mixologist who specializes in bitters.
This small bar packs a big punch with its thoughtful cocktails, creative ingredients, and knowledgeable staff. Their "Sharpie Mustache" cocktail is a great introduction to bitters, made with Meletti Amaro (Italian Liqueur), Bonal (French Aperitif), Rye Whiskey, Gin and Tiki Bitters, and is served in a glass flask with a mustache for comic relief.
They also have a great selection of morning beverages, which makes sense as bitters like Angostura were traditionally drank in the morning for medicinal purposes. Their "Morning Stubble" cocktail incorporates Ndaroini, counter-culture coffee that is known for its quality and sustainability.
