#AsktheLocals: Tips for Riding the Subway

4/11/2018

New Yorkers ride it every single day but many visitors find the subway completely intimidating. The truth is once you get the hang of it, it's easier and quicker than most other forms of transportation in the city. And as you get used to it, you discover some little tips and hacks to make traveling underground a little easier.

Our local guides share for both visitors and locals a few ideas, including special apps, tips on which trains to take, and how to swipe your card properly, to make the subway a complete breeze. Now we just have to hope the MTA actually runs the trains on time.

#AsktheLocals: Best Museums in NYC

10/25/2017

The guidebooks will list dozens of museums to check out in New York - the Met, the MoMA, the Natural History. But if you hit all those museums, you'd miss a good deal of the day to day life in the city.

So we think you should pick and choose your museum visits. Our local guides have recommendations for the less popular but more local museums. Learn about the subway system at the Transit Museum or see the tenements where immigrants used to live at the Lower East Side Tenement Museum or get on an historic boat in New York harbor at the Seaport Museum.

#AsktheLocals: Best Pizza in NYC

9/13/2017

It's the age old New York question. Where can I get a taste of the best pizza in the city? Odds are any slice you choose will probably be better than anything you've tasted outside of New York. But if you had to only pick one, which would it be?

Our local guides attempt to answer that impossible question. Some prefer a late-night greasy slice, others will travel to see a master pizzaiolo at work, others find perfection in the simplicity of a thin crust pie with great ingredients, and some like to keep it close to home. Check out our picks in the above video and let us know if you agree of disagree.

#AsktheLocals: Best Rooftop Bars in NYC

8/23/2017

In New York, we are always on the street interacting with everyone and looking up at the big buildings. Sometimes it's important to get a different view. And in the summertime, we love to look onto the city from above. And short of taking a helicopter ride (which you can do), the best way to get up high is to hang out on a rooftop bar. Problem is many rooftop bars are overcrowded, overpriced, and over-the-top.

Leave it to our local guides to recommend the rooftop bars that are a little more calm, featuring quality drinks, and killer views. You can drink next to the Empire State Building, from above Times Square, on a rooftop vineyard in Brooklyn, or surrounded by lush greenery. Watch the video for our picks.
